You have located the digital bunker of the rock music collective Random Fog, an entity of currently non-specific geographical orientation with roots in the sleepy college town of Kirksville, Missouri, USA.

After enjoying high praise and laudatory fanfare in the 1990’s as Whiskey Richard, Random Fog has embarked on bold new musical adventures into unspecified, foggy, random territory.

In 2018 we released Confluence, our first album in quite a few years, and you can listen from the menu above, then download it at CD Baby. Our next album is currently in the works and slated for release in 2024. We will definitely let you know when we know something definite.

It took 23 years to build this website, and now it’s finally here. If you remember us as Whiskey Richard in the 90’s, we’re now Random Fog, a rag tag band of well oiled professionals who assemble as a collective from time to time in order to record and appear live. It may not always

Can you believe it? After 23 years, the handsome boys of Whiskey Richard have released a new album, this time as the rambling collective Random Fog. The name of the album is Confluence, and we’re pretty proud of it. You can listen to the entire recording here, then proceed with your bad self on over to CD Baby to download it for your personal enjoyment anywhere.

From the artists formerly known as Whiskey Richard, the Random Fog album “Confluence” is both a new start and a reunion record 23 years in the making from the trio of Chris Clausen (drums, vocals, multiple instruments), Glenn Schmitz (guitars and vocals), and Greg Linhares (bass, vocals, guitars). The album title “Confluence” refers to the confluence river towns of St. Louis and Pittsburgh that its members call home, and to the happy confluence of events that brought about a joyous, jam-packed, two-day reunion in July 2017 that featured both a packed-house live show and a full day’s worth of new recording material that formed the basis of the new album. Finishing work was done both in St. Louis and Pittsburgh, and the expert production and engineering skills of Justin Fisher at Smith-Lee studios put it all together. Clausen colleague Peter Wagner provided expert mastering to complete the album. The new band name “Random Fog” (Random Friends of Glenn/Friends of Greg/[and Friends of Chris – we just don’t include the “C”, because yeah]) reflects what we hope will be a recurring and more collective approach to making music in the future. “Confluence” may be the first album under a new name, but we certainly hope it won’t be the last.

Album Notes: “Confluence” was produced by Justin Fisher at Smith-Lee Studios, Maplewood, MO, and mastered by Peter Wagner. Special thanks to Doug Heaps, Tripp Clarke, and 3-2-1 Blink Studios in Pittsburgh for assistance in recording Glenn’s extra parts. Thanks to Richard Gibson for the pedal steel on “Devotion” and “I May Never See You Again”.
